Folk art character animation

With my folk art project I want to design a game, so I decided to try doing some idle animations of the main character.

At first I tried doing a walking cycle, but I found this really hard to do and it kept turning out wrong.

I then decided to do something easier and made her clothes blow from a gust of wind that went past.
I really like how it came out, it looks a lot more neat then the other animation.

I've really enjoyed doings these, the end result on the second animation made me feel really good so I'm to keep going with these and make some more in the future

Life drawing 6

I really loved life drawing this week really I feel like my work has improved a lot, I think my proportions have gotten better and I think adding some shading helps a lot as well. I still need to work on foreshortening but I've defiantly improved since last week in my opinion
although you may not be able to see it very well in two of my pictures I decided to try and draw the life models feet and hands and I love how they came out as I'm really not very good at drawing either of them.

Story board

I've decided to do some story boards to help me piece my games story together.

This is what I think the main character originally would look like.

Speech bubble one : Aren't you excited sweetie?

Speech bubble two: I hate the circus..

Speech bubble one: I'm going to the toilet

Speech bubble two: Hello there...

 Speech bubble: Lost little girl?....

Speech bubble: No much of a talker eh?

These are all the pages I've done right now I'm not sure if I'm going to keep doing these or if I'm going to do screenshots instead

World design idea, Circus

I really like the circus and hoe magical and mysterious it can be so I've decided to make that one of the stages in the game

This is a rough design I've done

These are two enemies in the circus level, I had the thought that as you go through the level it gets more twisted and scary and the circus actors become more distorted and start attacking you

Folk art main character

I've have decided to go for this character to be the main protaganist in my game as I said before

I've altered her design a little and gave her three other costumes she could wear

Kukeri Bulgarian ritual, Circus, Modern

These are some examples of how she would move and interact with a block blocking her way

Folk art character's

After looking at the Kukeri ritual I started designing some character's based on their costumes and masks.
I loved the designs for the masks and how scary some of them looked.

Out of all the characters i designed this one stuck out the most to me and I've decided that I'm going to develop it more and make it the main character.

Her mask while it was inspired by the Kukeri mask's, was also inspired from two there things

A hyoi pear from the game 'The legend of zelda, the Wind Waker'

The Gyroid's from the game called 'Animal Crossing'  which are inspired by Japanese clay figures called Haniwa which were made for ritual use and buried with the deceased between the 3rd and 6th century AD.
(I am thinking about using this somehow based around her mask)

Life drawing 5

This week I decided to back to using a pencil instead of using my tablet and honestly it felt a little bit refreshing.
I also tried using a ruler to try and measure out the proportions better and personally I prefer to just draw free hand but it was interesting to do.

Kukeri Bulgarian ritual

Kukeri is a traditional Bulgarian ritual to scare away evil spirits, with costumed men performing the ritual. Closely related traditions are found throughout the Balkans and Greece (including Romania and the Pontus). The costumes cover most of the body and include decorated wooden masks of animals (sometimes double-faced) and large bells attached to the belt. Around New Year and before Lent, the kukeri walk and dance through the village to scare evil spirits away with the costumes and the sound of the bells, as well as to provide a good harvest, health, and happiness to the village during the year.

The kukeri traditionally visit the peoples' houses at night so that "the sun would not catch them on the road." After going around the village they gather at the square to dance wildly and amuse the people. The ritual varies by region but its essence remains largely the same.

Nick Cave sound suits

Nick Cave is an artist, educator and foremost a messenger, working between the visual and performing arts through a wide range of mediums including sculpture, installation, video, sound and performance. He says of himself "I have found my middle and now am working toward what I am leaving behind." Cave is well known for his Sound-suits, sculptural forms based on the scale of his body. Sound-suits camouflage the body, masking and creating a second skin that conceals race, gender, and class, forcing the viewer to look without judgment.
I love how odd and strange these suits look, when looking at them game design wise they would really make interesting enemy's or just an NPC (A non-player character)
