Thanatophobia the fear of death
I decided to go for something a bit different with this phobia, my first idea for this was to make the boss the Grim Reaper but I thought that it was far too generic, so I decided to look in the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are described in the last book of the New Testament of the Bible, called the Book of Revelation of Jesus Christ to Saint John the Evangelist, at 6:1-8.
The chapter tells of a book or scroll in God's right hand that is sealed with seven seals. The Lamb of God, or Lion of Judah (Jesus Christ), opens the first four of the seven seals, which summons four beings that ride out on white, red, black, and pale horses. Although some interpretations differ, in most accounts, the four riders are seen as symbolizing Conquest, War, Famine, and Death, respectively. The Christian apocalyptic vision is that the four horsemen are to set a divine apocalypse upon the world as harbingers of the Last Judgment.
Instead of doing four character's I decided put them all into one character, and this way I can connect it more to the phobia of death.
You start the level of in a kingdom that's celebrating their new ruler, this is Conquest, during this part there's no enemies.
The second part of the level is during a war, this time there are some enemy soldiers who you have to avoid
The third part of the level is during the Famine, the town is completely deserted and all what's left is diseased and hungry people, you have to attack these people, you make your way to the castle to find its king a frail sick old man on his death bed.
The last part of the level is during the final stage of the apocalypse Death, the world is now a hellish place where demon and zombie soldiers from the old king are out to get you, you cant actually kill these enemies but you can knock them down.
The old king is now death himself and you can actually defeat him now.
With this boss design I started off with one design and really didn't like so I decided to do another one which was MUCH better
I looked at these reference pictures to help with each designs
